The Do’s and Don’ts of Paint Protection for Cars and Vans
Many people choose to wrap their cars and vans in vinyl because it makes it easier to display colourful graphics and advertisements on them. However, it is not the only reason to wrap your vehicle in vinyl. Another compelling reason is to protect the paint on the exterior and to keep it looking good.
If you want to preserve the value of your vehicle as much as possible, then vinyl wrap is the best way to do it. You must prepare the paint properly before the vinyl is applied or else it’ll look terrible. We will discuss the do’s and don’ts of paint protection for cars and vans so that you can understand this better.
Do’s
The biggest step of the paint protection process is to clean the paint surface of your vehicle first. Your goal is to remove all the dirt, debris, dead bugs, bird feces, and anything else that might be stuck to the paint. If you can perform the cleaning job inside of a garage, it would be even better. That way, the wind can’t blow dirt and sand onto the paint as you’re cleaning it.
After you’ve cleaned the paint surface, dry it thoroughly with a towel. Leave it in the garage for 60 minutes or so, to ensure all the moisture has evaporated. At this point, the paint is ready for the vinyl wrap application.
Once the vinyl is applied, you should clean the vinyl film periodically with car wash soap and a microfibre towel.
Don’ts
Don’t apply the vinyl wrap without cleaning your vehicle as described above. From that point forward, you must treat your vinyl wrap appropriately. Do not use rough towels or paper towels to wipe the film clean. You should also avoid commercial car washes because they can be very abrasive on the film.
If you notice dirt or dead bugs on the film, remove them as quickly as possible. Do not leave the debris there for a long time or else they might permanently stain the film.
What our customers say
We used BossDog through recommendation to supply and fit 36 vans for our client Wilcomatic. This project ran over an 8 week period to fit in with our clients timetable to ensure each batch of vans were branded as they arrived on site. The Boss Dog team were prompt, courteous and extremely professional in managing the project from start to finish. My client was very happy with the work done and as such we received praise from their MD for the job done. I will be using BossDog for all our livery work in the future and i am personally very happy to recommend them to any company on their livery requirements
